3 Apps That Are Using Technology For A Greater Cause
You should give all of these a try
Apps. We are surrounded by them. We use them everyday, every minute of our lives. Infact, I am writing this article because of an app (Chrome). There are 1.6 million apps on Apple’s App Store alone and 2.9 million on Android. A lot of these apps help make our lives easier.
But there are 3 apps that I came across recently and they blew my mind away. Literally. Mainly because they use technology in a way I haven’t seen yet.
Here’s the list —
A) BeMyEyes — https://www.bemyeyes.com/
They connect people with low/no vision with volunteers from around the world via a live video call. I mean, isn’t this insane? There are a number of use cases. A blind woman in Denmark wants to collect her dog’s poo. She uses the app and connects with a volunteer in India. That person helps her to find the poop via a video call. In another situation, an army veteran in Mexico with low vision connects with a volunteer in Australia to help him navigate a mall. Isn’t this amazing?
B) ShareTheMeal — https://sharethemeal.org/en/
ShareTheMeal is an initiative of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). With just a few taps on your phone you can donate to someone in need and the United Nations World Food Programme will deliver the meals. I have used this app a number of times and I feel good using it everytime.
C) CharityMiles — https://charitymiles.org/
Charity Miles is a free app that allows users to earn money and raise awareness for charities by walking, running or biking, or any other movement– all courtesy of corporate partners. Just choose a charity and hit the streets. As you walk, run, or bike, the app will measure your distance and you will earn money for your charity: 10¢ per mile for bikers; 25¢ per mile for walkers and runners, all up to our initial $1,000,000 corporate sponsorship pool.
